About
Hi and welcome to Back in Balance - Equine Therapy. I'm Faith and my aim is to provide a whole horse therapeutic approach to release muscular tension
I have over 40 years experience of working with and owning horses and am also a BHSAI. I am a fully certified and insured Equine Sports Massage and Rehabilitation Therapist (Cert. ESMT) and I am a professional member of the IAAT.
I trained with Wolds Equine Rehabilitation and Training and graduated with a Level 4 Diploma.
Horses have been my passion for as long as I can remember and I honestly have no idea where it came from as I am from a totally non-horsey background. I have had horses pretty much all of my life and grew up competing at local shows, I think I have had a go at nearly every discipline. I have backed and produced my own horses and enjoyed the journey of training and educating them. I have a passion for groundwork, biomechanics and holistic horse care.
I am always continuing my learning and follow a programme of continuous professional development to ensure that I am up to date with the latest therapies and treatments to enable me to provide the best level of care and treatment for every horse.

The Role of Equine Sports Massage Therapists
In the world of equine sports, maintaining peak performance and overall well-being is crucial for our four-legged athletes. That’s where equine sports massage therapists come into play!
What Do They Do?
Equine sports massage therapists specialise in assessing and treating the musculoskeletal system of horses, focusing on enhancing performance, preventing injuries, and aiding recovery.
Here’s a closer look at their work:
-
Assessment: Before any treatment, therapists evaluate the horse’s condition, looking for areas of tension, pain, or restriction. This assessment is key to creating a tailored treatment plan.
-
Massage Techniques: They employ various techniques, including effleurage, petrissage, and friction, to promote blood flow, relieve muscle tension, and enhance flexibility. These methods help in releasing lactic acid and other toxins that can accumulate during exercise.
-
Injury Prevention and Recovery: Regular massage can prevent injuries by identifying potential issues before they become serious. For horses recovering from injuries, targeted massage can aid healing and reduce rehabilitation time.
-
Enhancing Performance: Just like human athletes, horses benefit from regular maintenance. Massage helps improve muscle function, range of motion, and overall performance, allowing horses to compete at their best.
-
Holistic Care: Equine sports massage therapists often collaborate with veterinarians and trainers to create a comprehensive care plan, ensuring the horse’s physical and mental well-being.
Why It Matters:
With the increasing demands of equestrian sports, the role of sports massage therapists is more important than ever. Their expertise not only keeps horses fit and competitive but also contributes to their overall happiness and comfort.
Whether you’re an amateur rider or a professional competitor, incorporating sports massage into your horse’s routine can make all the difference!
